Marketing Tips
Promotions According to an article appearing in the September/October 2009 issue of Specialty Coffee Retailer, a Nielsen Company study showed that: • nearly half of consumer purchases are based upon promotions and sales at their local grocery stores; and • that such purchases increase in a weak economy as consumers attempt to stretch grocery budgets even further.
Promotions typically include ads, in-store fliers, end cap product displays and temporary price reductions. The surprising result was not the increase in promotions during a recession, but the significant increase in purchase decisions being influenced by the promotions.
